About Exhale Sinus, TMJ, Headache And Sleep

True wellness comes from treating each person as a whole. We combine conventional medical approaches with holistic practices.

Feel better. Be better. Thrive.

We are an ENT practice built around a simple observation: the sinuses, the jaw, the airway, the head, and the nervous system are not separate problems. They are one connected system. When one part is inflamed, obstructed, or out of balance, the rest of the head follows.

Exhale Sinus, TMJ, Headache And Sleep was founded to treat that whole system — not the fragments of it that happen to fall inside a single specialty. We combine board-certified otolaryngology with Eastern medicine, minimally invasive procedures with conservative first-line care, and Western diagnostics with acupuncture, myofascial work, and lifestyle medicine.

Our patients are people who have already been told, more than once, that "everything looks normal." They are not imagining their symptoms. They have been evaluated in pieces. We put the pieces together.

A Unified Approach to Your Care

Led by Dr. Ryan Vaughn, our team creates individualized treatment plans to lessen your pain and discomfort. Through a collaboration between disciplines that often do not intersect, we draw upon the experience of orofacial pain and sleep dentistry, physical therapy, and ENT medical care.
Our Specialties

Our philosophy — why Exhale exists

Traditional ENT care is often organized around procedures. A sinus that will not drain gets surgery. A jaw that will not open gets referred to a dentist. A patient who cannot sleep gets sent for a study and, eventually, a CPAP machine. Each intervention, on its own, can be excellent. But patients don't liveinside one intervention. They live inside a head that has to do all of these things at once.

Exhale was built to work at that intersection.

Sinus and headache share nerves

The trigeminal nerve carries sensation from the sinuses, the teeth, the jaw, the forehead, and much of the face. Inflammation in one branch shows up as pain in another. That is why so many patients diagnosed with "migraines" are actually experiencing sinus-driven or TMJ driven pain, and why so many patients diagnosed with "sinus headaches" are actually experiencing migraine.

TMJ and airway share space

The jaw's resting position affects the tongue's resting position, whichaffects the airway. Patients with disordered breathing at night often have TMJ pain during the day, and vice versa.

Sleep and inflammation share biology

Poor sleep raises inflammatory markers. Chronic sinus inflammation disrupts sleep. Each one feeds the other.
If you treat one piece and ignore the rest, the piece you treated often comes back. If you treat the whole head, patients get better and stay better. That is the practice we built.
