About Dr. Plein
Dr. Colleen Plein, MD Board-Certified Otolaryngologist — Head & Neck Surgery
Dr. Colleen Plein is a board-certified otolaryngologist seeing patients at Exhale Sinus in Schaumburg and Rockford. She is board-certified in Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery and has spent more than ten years helping patients breathe and sleep better.
Her focus is the overlap between breathing and rest — the sinus, nasal, and airway problems that quietly erode a person's sleep, energy, and day-to-day functioning. She treats the full range of ENT conditions, with particular attention to patients whose symptoms have been dismissed or left unresolved elsewhere.
Dr. Plein is known for an unhurried, collaborative approach. She believes patients should never feel rushed into decisions, and that being deeply competent and deeply human are not opposites.
"Deep sleep and clear breathing matter more than most people realize," she says. "Curiosity is still one of the most useful tools in medicine."
She trained at the University of Chicago and SUNY Downstate. Outside the office, Dr. Plein is married with two children, and can usually be found cooking, listening to music, or diving into whatever has her attention that month.
